At Dinnington First School we believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to the wider health and wellbeing of our children, providing them with the necessary tools for a happy, healthy life now and in the future. We also believe that a broad, balanced high quality curriculum coupled with extra- curricular activities has a positive impact on concentration and academic achievement.
Our aims at Dinnington First School are to:
-
engage as many of our children as possible in the widest range of physical activities and sports.
-
provide our children with the tools to build happy active lifestyles
-
allow our children to experience the buzz of taking part in competitive sporting events.
Our curriculum ensures that all children get at least two hours of high quality Physical Education delivered by a teacher or specialist coach every week. Coupled with additional active elements such as The Daily Mile, action songs and playtime sports challenges, pupils are actually active for close to 3 hours each week.
What is the Sports Premium?
Each school receives £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil each year while the funding is put in place by the government. This money is earmarked solely for the development of sport and PE provision within our school.
What we can offer
With the introduction of the sports grant we have been able to grow our curriculum and provide new opportunities for our pupils. We are proud that our children have had the opportunity to experience activities including:

In recent years our pupils have taken part in a variety of competitive events – some within school, some regionally within Newcastle and many as part of the Gosforth Schools Trust. Competitive opportunities have been offered for football, athletics, tennis, archery, dance, Tri-golf, cricket and dodge ball. Dinnington was also proud to organise and host an orienteering competition for all schools within the Gosforth Schools Trust for the past 3 years.
