    Art

At Dinnington First School, we believe that  Art is a vital part of a broad and balanced curriculum, nurturing creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking in all pupils. Our intent is to provide a rich and inclusive art education that inspires children to explore their ideas, express themselves visually, and develop confidence in their creative abilities.

Art teaching at our school is  fully aligned with the National Curriculum, ensuring that pupils progressively build skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art, craft, and design techniques. Through structured and exploratory learning, children learn to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art and design.

We carefully select artists and artworks that reflect both  local significance and global diversity. Pupils engage with the work of artists such as Pitman Painters, whose contributions connect directly to our community and heritage, alongside internationally renowned figures like Frida Kahlo, Henri Matisse, and Adonna  Khare, offering exposure to a wide range of styles, cultures, and perspectives.

Art contributes meaningfully to our  whole-school curriculum aims  by promoting resilience, collaboration, and independent thinking. It supports emotional wellbeing, enhances cultural capital, and provides opportunities for cross-curricular learning, particularly in subjects such as history, literacy, and PSHE. Through art, we aim to cultivate a lifelong appreciation of creativity and visual communication.
