Safeguarding
Keeping children safe is our highest priority at Dinnington First School.
All staff receive regular safeguarding training to ensure they understand their responsibilities and remain up to date with current safeguarding guidance and best practice. Training is provided by Clennell Education Solutions and our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Head Teacher Mrs Caroline Ash.
Our governors, Head Teacher and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, (Mr Richard Donnelly) , also receive regular Safer Recruitment training. This helps ensure that thorough safeguarding checks and recruitment procedures are followed when appointing new staff.
Safeguarding updates are shared regularly with staff to ensure everyone is aware of the latest guidance set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education.
We work closely with our pupils and families and are committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where children can thrive. If we have concerns about a child's welfare, we will take appropriate action and, where necessary, seek support from relevant agencies. We aim to work openly with parents and carers wherever possible; however, we may make referrals without prior notification if we believe this is necessary to protect a child.
Operation Encompass
Dinnington First School is part of Operation Encompass, a partnership between schools and the police that supports children affected by domestic abuse.
Through this programme, the police share confidential information with the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead when a child has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident. This enables us to provide timely support and ensure the child receives any help they may need in school.
Online Safety
We believe that safeguarding children includes helping them stay safe online.
Pupils use the internet regularly to support their learning across the curriculum. To help protect them, we use Smoothwall, a filtering and monitoring system that blocks inappropriate content and identifies potentially concerning online activity.
If a search or online activity raises a safeguarding concern, designated members of staff are alerted immediately so that appropriate action can be taken. Internet usage is monitored and reviewed regularly to help maintain a safe online environment for all pupils.
By attending Dinnington First School, parents and carers acknowledge the school's use of the Smoothwall filtering and monitoring system as part of our commitment to keeping children safe online.
