Our curriculum is broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated, and above all stimulates the children to learn. It builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points.
Children in early years follow The Foundation Stage curriculum. In Key Stages 1 and 2 we deliver programmes of study that meet the National Curriculum (2014) requirements.
We place a strong emphasis on the development of basic skills, allowing all children to be confident independent learners .Children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 take part in daily phonic sessions following the Letters and Sounds Programme. Children in Key stage 1 and 2 take part in regular grammar, punctuation and spelling sessions. Each year group has a set of non negotiables for mathematics which are taught daily and expected to be applied. All children in Early Years engage in daily literacy and numeracy sessions and older children engage in daily English and mathematics lessons.
Computing skills are taught separately and then reinforced and applied across all areas of the curriculum.
Other areas of the curriculum are taught using a creative, thematic approach Themes are covered over a two year cycle and are planned in order to increase and develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the world and their local area.
In PE children are taught dance, gymnastics, sport and athletics and are encouraged to lead healthy active lifestyles. The Schools Sports’ Grant is used to support this and provide additional activities.
In all areas of the curriculum barriers to learning are removed and we provide suitable learning challenges that respond to the diverse needs of our children. This involves a variety of exciting first hand experiences both indoors and out e.g. focus days and weeks, educational and residential visits, sporting events and after school clubs.
This, together with a stimulating environment ensures that children develop to their full potential academically, socially and physically.
